1. Windload : P=30 psf = 0.00146 kg/cm2
2. Design requirement : Hang down value must be below L/180.
3. The load to slot equally distributed load
  • ⓐ Slot Wide 7.4 cm
  • ⓑ Equally distributed load
  • W= 0.0146 kg/cm2 * 7.4cm = 0.10804 kg/cm

4. Features of Slot material
  • A) a. Elastic modulus of Slot material E=2.12*106
    b. Slot material profile 2nd moment
    ⓐ In case thickness of Slot material is 1.6 mm: 20cm4
    ⓑ In case thickness of Slot material is 1.2 mm: 14cm4
    ③ simple beam's maximum hang down value = 3WL4 / 384 EI.
    ④ Door Wide to fulfill the design requirement
    L/180 = 5WL4/ 384EI
    L= √384EI/180*5W
    s= √384*2.12*106**20/180*5*0.10804
    L= 551.18cm = 18.083 ft

  • B) ① In case thickness of Slot material is 1.2 mm

    ⓐ Slot = simple beam
    ⓑ L = The maximum width of Door
    ③ simple beam's maximum hang down value = 5WL4 / 192 EI.
    ④ Door Wide to fulfill the design requirement
    L/180 = 5WL4/ 192EI
    L= √192EI/180*W
    s= √192*2.12*106**14*16/180*0.10804
    L= 1673.69cm = 54.911 ft


  • CONCLUSION

    If Door width is 18'-8" ~ 54'-91", it is manufactured as 1.2mm Slot, and a Windload system is installed.

    If Door width is over 54'-8", a Windload system is not installed.
